His votes are distributed among the remaining candidates using the second preferences on those ballots. But the damage has been done: The candidate with the fewest first-preference votes has been eliminated. &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Another preferential voting method (which is used for example in Major League Baseball MVP votes, and in several US universitites) is the Borda Count. It is simplicity itself: Say there are three candidates. The voters rank them in order of preference, and 3 points are given to the first choice, 2 points to the second, and 1 point to the third. Then all the candidates' points are added up and the one with the most points wins.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/9765946/114947804252695473/comments/default/114953752395768169'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/9765946/114947804252695473/comments/default/114953752395768169'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://polsw.blogspot.com/2006/06/disenfranchised-by-design-how-closed.html?showComment=1149537480000#c114953752395768169' title=''/><author><name>Alfonz</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://polsw.blogspot.com/2006/06/disenfranchised-by-design-how-closed.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9765946.post-114947804252695473' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/9765946/posts/default/114947804252695473' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
